Much of the watch engravers work is accomplished on the small individual links. Metal engraving is the art of removing metal with a small hammer and various chisels in a way that reveals the art within and is often enhanced by darkening the metal in the engraved area making it easier to see. Still, the engraving looks different in different lighting conditions. I think you would have to see the item in person to fully appreciate the work that went into it. Hand engraving the stainless steel Rolex case and bracelet in a deep relief style is not an easy task. The metal is quite hard and the carbide graver needs to be sharpened and re-sharpened many times during the process. The end result is a unique one-of-a-kind hand engraved watch that can be treasured forever.
All this requires time. It can take from eight weeks to as much as six months to complete a custom engraving depending upon the amount of detail required in the artwork.
